When you are ready to get your music on FnF.FM, you have two routes: free submission or paid radio promotion. Both are real options, and neither is the "right" one for everybody. It depends on your goals, your timing and your budget.
This post sets out the facts side by side, so you can make a calm, informed choice. No pressure either way.
Free music submission: the basics
Through our Submit your song page, you can send one to three MP3 files, each under 12 MB, with optional album art. You add the song title, artist name, album if there is one, genres, country and email. You confirm that you own the rights and agree to non-paid promotional airplay. Our guide to submitting music to radio stations for free airplay walks through the form.
It costs nothing. What it does not do is guarantee a set number of plays or a fixed schedule.
Free submission makes sense if:
- You are just starting out and want to test the waters.
- You do not have a specific release date to build around.
- You would rather spend your budget elsewhere, for example on mixing, mastering or artwork.
- You are happy to be patient.
Paid radio promotion: plans, plays and prices
Our Paid Music Promotion plans give your song a fixed amount of airplay for as long as your plan runs. There are four plans: Start, Basic, VIP and Pro. You can be billed weekly, monthly or yearly, and payment is handled through PayPal. Delivery is within 12 hours.
Here is what each plan includes on a weekly basis.
- Start: $9 a week. 28 plays a week, which is 4 a day. Songs up to 4 minutes.
- Basic: $19 a week. 42 plays a week, which is 6 a day. Songs up to 4 minutes.
- VIP: $29 a week. 84 plays a week, which is 12 a day. Songs up to 5 minutes.
- Pro: $39 a week. 168 plays a week, which is 24 a day. Songs up to 5 minutes.
For monthly and yearly pricing, see the promotion page.
Radio airplay cost per play, read honestly
It helps to look at the cost per play, worked out from the weekly prices above:
- Start: about 32 cents per play
- Basic: about 45 cents per play
- VIP: about 35 cents per play
- Pro: about 23 cents per play
A few things stand out. Pro gives you the most plays and the lowest cost per play. Start is the lowest total spend.
VIP gives you double the plays of Basic for $10 more a week. Basic costs more per play than the others, so if you are weighing Basic, it is worth looking at Start or VIP as well.
Song length matters too. If your track runs longer than 4 minutes, Start and Basic will not fit it. You would need VIP or Pro, or a shorter radio edit.
Paid promotion makes sense if:
- You have a release date and want steady airplay around it.
- You want to know exactly how often your song will play.
- You want airplay to start quickly. Delivery is within 12 hours.
- You have a budget set aside for promotion and want something predictable.
What paid music promotion is not
We want to be clear about this. Paid promotion buys airplay: a set number of plays of your song on FnF.FM. It does not promise any particular number of new fans, streams, followers or sales. Radio is one part of building an audience, not the whole thing.
The best results usually come when airplay is part of a bigger plan: a good release, clear artwork, consistent artist names across platforms, and telling your own fans where they can hear you. Our album art design tips can help with the artwork.
Free submission or paid promotion: a simple way to decide
- Is the song finished and mastered? If not, finish it first. No plan fixes a rough mix.
- Do you have a date to aim for? If yes, paid promotion can give you steady plays around it. If not, free submission is a sensible start.
- How long is the song? Over 4 minutes means VIP or Pro, or a radio edit.
- What can you comfortably spend? Only spend what you can afford. Start at $9 a week is a low-risk way to try it.
You can also do both. For example, you could submit one song for free, then use a short paid plan for a release you want to push harder.
